Berry Picking, Blogging, and a Piece of the Pie

...I don't want to put on my shoes, it's cold out, and washing last night's dishes is starting to look good. But if I don't get my fanny out into my garden, especially when it's wet and cold, those ripe red raspberries will grow moldy and drop off the vine into the dirt. The waning daylight pokes me like a sharp stick, and I grab my colander and head out the door.

I always wonder what took me so long. I can't hear the robins singing from my armchair, or the neighbors calling their kids home for supper. Sure, a spider might drop down in my face, but I try not to scream--it frightens the neighbors. While my hands are busy, I spend a little while with my Grandpa Gus, who used to turn us loose in his garden to fill our tummies with sun-warmed berries. For the grownup me, the icing on this cake will actually be a pie, made with fresh juicy raspberries.

If you've been a writer for more than fifteen minutes, you've already heard that if you want a piece of the pie, you must establish a website and a social media platform. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and others I've never heard of, so I can't even spell them. And a blog.

I was born an old dog. My husband had to drag me to the computer (what is that thing and why are you making me touch it?). He had to tie me to a chair to teach me how to use it (Why would you do this? I thought you loved me!). This happened about a hundred times before I was ready to trade my quill for a Mac. Now writing equals cut and paste, and I use my quill for dusting the keyboard. Email and the internet were also keepers. Without them, I couldn't find nearly so many fascinating ways to procrastinate.

I've been pretty good keeping up with the raspberry harvest. I reckon I can learn one more new trick, and keep up with the blogging. Here I go...

Do I have to?....
