Naomi Baltuck

I grew up in Detroit, graduated from the University of Michigan, and headed west to seek my fortune. I worked at the Bar 717 Ranch in the Trinity Alps, taught canoe in King’s Canyon, and waited tables in the Tetons. In Seattle I found my forever home, and became a puppeteer, storyteller, teacher, and Mom. In 1985, after winning a West Coast Storytelling competition, I became a full-time storyteller and writer. I taught storytelling at Seattle Pacific University and University Washington's Experimental College, and for years served as president of the Seattle Storytellers Guild.

Since then, I have written historical novels, essays, award-winning anthologies of folktales and non-ficti0n storytelling resources. I collaborated with my sister Deborah and, more recently, with my daughter Beatrice Baltuck Alder, to write novels that blend history, fantasy, folklore and romance.

When not writing, I run Under the Rainbow, a non-profit LGBTQIA+ Creative Community, and can often be found outside editing my garden, or researching the world.
